WHY DO WE TRAP

Ear tipping is a widely recognized and effective way to mark outdoor cats that have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated. The process involves a veterinarian surgically removing about the top quarter (roughly 3/8 inch or 1 cm) of a cat’s left ear while the cat is under anesthesia for its spay or neuter surgery.

This quick and safe procedure causes minimal to no bleeding, is not painful for the cat, and does not negatively impact its appearance.

Ear tipping serves as a visible indicator for trappers and community members that a cat has already been fixed, helping to prevent unnecessary retrapping. It’s a humane and practical way to support community cat management.
