ASA

Asa Against All Odds

We received a call about a mama cat and her three tiny kittens who needed help. The plan was simple at first- TNVR for mom and safety for the babies once they were old enough. But sometimes, the plans we make are gently rewritten by the ones who need us most.

When we went to meet them, Asa greeted us right away, sweet and trusting, as if she already knew we were there to help. During her TNVR visit, we learned she had a rectovaginal fistula- a medical condition where an abnormal opening connects the rectum and vagina, creating ongoing health risks and making life on the streets especially dangerous. What amazed us most was that, despite this condition, Asa had already defied the odds- surviving long enough to reach adulthood, carry a full-term pregnancy, and give birth to three healthy kittens, then raise them into strong, thriving babies through nothing but a mother’s love and resilience.

Asa had never lived indoors before, yet she settled into her new life with remarkable grace. While her kittens found their forever homes, Asa’s journey took a little longer. Being an adult cat with a medical condition meant waiting, but she never waited alone.

During her healing, Asa met a foster sister named Bug, and the two bonded almost instantly. Soon after, they welcomed a tiny foster brother, Marmalade, who they treated like their very own baby. Asa was missing her kittens. Marmalade was missing his mother. Together, they found comfort, purpose, and healing in one another as they waited for families of their own.

Then, just when it felt like the wait had been long enough, the stars aligned. The best possible ending found them all at once. Bug, Asa, and Marmalade were adopted together, heading into a forever home as a bonded family- best friends who would never have to be separated.

It’s hard to imagine how such gentle souls once faced the world alone, but those days are over now. They are safe, cherished, and deeply loved.

This is why we do it.
