Marmalade
Marmalades Brave Beginning
We received an urgent call about a tiny kitten with a badly injured eye. His brother had already gone missing, and the community knew they had to act fast to save the one who was left before something terrible happened to him too.
We were able to trap the injured baby and his mother, along with the rest of the colony. His mom wasn’t friendly, so she was TNVR to prevent any more litters, and Marmalade came into our care. His injuries were severe- one eye couldn’t be saved, and the other had no eyelid, meaning he would need both eye removal and reconstructive eyelid surgery once he was older.
But Marmalade was in too much pain to wait.
Even with medication, he struggled to eat, grow, and rest. He was so small for his age and so frightened- inside for the first time, without his mom, facing more than any kitten should have to endure. So we made the hard decision to move forward with surgery sooner than planned, choosing comfort over waiting.
And then, something beautiful happened.
Free from the constant pain, Marmalade began to come out of his shell. He grew braver, more curious, and more trusting each day. His world truly changed when he met his foster sisters, Bug and Asa. They became his stand-in mothers- playing with him, grooming him, cuddling him close, and teaching him the way only a mama cat can.
These three hearts found exactly what they needed in one another.
Then, just when it felt like the wait had been long enough, the stars aligned. The best possible ending found them all at once. Bug, Asa, and Marmalade were adopted together, heading into a forever home as a bonded family- best friends who would never have to be separated.
It’s hard to imagine how such a tiny soul faced so much so early in life, but those days are over now. Marmalade is safe, cherished, and deeply loved.
This is why we do it.
